Cat bed

This is an description of a very simple catbed. After a bath my cats dive straight into the bed to keep warm. At catshows this bed could be useful, even if   some cats seems to prefer to sleep in their litterboxes. Without the cushion the catbed can be used upside down over the catshow litterbox, to prevent the sand from messing up the cats coat (if it's only using the box to sleep in anyway).

Material:
foam rubber, fabric (1 meter at 150 cm wide), quilting and thread.

I made this 150cmwpe37.jpg (12049 bytes)

Fabric: 2 x height of bed + 2 cm of seam allowance

Foam rubber: 1 x height of bed (I made it 11 cm)

Form the foam rubber stripe into a circle. Put the circle on the fabric that you want to use for bottom. Shape it into desired shape(oval, round or kidneyshaped). Draw a line on the fabric 1 cm outside the foam rubber circle. Cut out the bottom.

Sew together the ends of the fabric for the circle around the bed. Fold it over the foam rubber circle.  If you want the edge of the catbed to be fuller, fill it up with cotton.

Pin the circle of foam rubber and the folded fabric to the bottom-fabric. Sew a straight seam and then a zigzag seam. Turn the bed so that the seam is on the inside(it will be covered by the cushion). If you would like, you can sew a decor seam around the catbed so that it will appear to be made out of two circles. Sew a cushion to fit the bottom of the catbed, fill it with cotton or some other material that your cat likes.

Good luck!
